An integrated tool for planning cellular radio networks, mathematical modeling and system optimization (Oct. 1997 - Sept. 2000)

Funded by the BMBF

Summary:

In this project, algorithms are designed to solve the following optimization problems for the design and improvement of cellular networks. Particularly, aspects of the upcoming UMTS networks using CDMA technology are included. The following components will be developed and implemented as prototypes.
  1. Deterministic three-dimensional radio wave propagation prediction.
  2. Traffic models derived from morphological and geographical input data, as well as traffic models based on stochastic point processes.
  3. Optimum positioning of base stations under different objective functions, taking account of CDMA and TD/FDMA technology.
  4. Integrating channel allocation and cell site selection in a single optimization approach.
