Intercarrier Interference Cancellation Using Complex Conjugate Technique for Alamouti-Coded MIMO-OFDM Systems

Abstract:

This paper proposes an Alamouti coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme com- bining with the intercarrier interference (ICI) complex conjugate cancellation scheme in order to mitigate ICI caused by frequency offset in MIMO system. The proposed system provides advantages of a complex conjugate cancellation scheme, such as backward compatibility with the existing Alamouti coded OFDM system and low receiver complexity. Moreover, if the channels are real-valued fading channels i.e. an attenuation in wireless communications, simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a lower bit error rate (BER) compared with existing Alamouti coded OFDM system without ICI cancellation technique in both AWGN and fading channels. A phase compensation of conjugate path is derived in order to maximize the combined signal on Alamouti combining scheme and to support complex-valued fading channels. In addition, in the presence of small frequency offsets, when the channels are complex-valued fading channels, this scheme offers higher diversity than such scheme with real-valued fading channels.
