Analysis and Improvement of Road Traffic Efficiency with Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication


Autonomous vehicle is regarded as a solution to eliminate human driving error and improve traffic efficiency. The cruise control method of autonomous vehicle has been studied for many years. Concepts like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) and Platooning were proposed with their own advantages and disadvantages. In this thesis, a novel cruise control method with the help of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication is presented to maximize the road traffic throughput under the constraint of system stability. Besides, the requirements for future V2V communication systems, e.g. the 3GPP LTE-V2X system, to support the presented autonomous vehicle services and traffic scenarios are also studied.
