Design and Analysis of OpenCL Kernel and Scheduling Strategies Applied to Radio Wave Propagation

Abstract:

The increasing demand for mobile Internet services and mobile connection speed imposes new requirements for the planning and operation of mobile networks. Ray-Launching as a model for Radio Wave Propagation Prediction can provide the necessary precision for such, but requires a great amount of computing power to deliver fast results. Recently emerging Many-Core-Architectures in combination with OpenCL have the ability to supply that power.

This work will analyze the possibilities for the application of OpenCL in Radio Wave Propagation Prediction and the potential of performance and efficiency increases. The talk is the introductory talk to the Diploma Thesis with the same title. It will introduce Many-Core Architectures and OpenCL, point out possible applications in Radio Wave Propagation Prediction and demonstrate implementation challenges.
